Thursday, 29 March 2007, 3:10am

Not sure why this blog site always reflects US time, but I've since decided to include a more accurate Singapore timing in all my posts. In future, when I look back at my previous posts, I can then safely ask myself "what the heck am I doing awake at 3:10am in the morning?"

Just fed nat ... before nat came along ... i was not really a believer of breastfeeding. But now, I truly think that breast is best! Besides the obvious nutritional benefits, I do feel a bonding and closeness to her during feeding times, I enjoy feeling her breathing against me and I know she can feel my breathing as well... think I will try to continue breastfeeding for at least six months ... wish me luck!
It's one of those nights where I can't sleep again ... ended up surfing the net, blogging and trying to coax baby to sleep. These days, she's sleeping a lot during the day and mighty alert during the night. Sigh, maybe I should really read Gina Ford's Contented Little Baby Book which teaches you how to set up a routine, so that baby will learn to sleep longer hours at night. Gary bought it for me months ago but it's been sitting on the shelf since.

I just read this poem on the net, not sure whom it is written by, but it's quite sweet ... and just a reminder to myself to enjoy every moment I spend with Nat as she grows up :)

Baby's Hand

Today I'll hold my baby's hand
And take time to explore.
The secrets of a baby's world
This moment has in store.

For that same hand will wave goodbye
When baby days have passed.
Today I'll hold my baby's hand
For babies grow so fast.

Everyday, we try to bring babee nat downstairs to the pool for a walk. She seems to enjoy it, especially looking up at the sky ... enjoying the coolness of the gentle wind blowing against her face. This is definitely a routine that i will try my best to continue ... After our walk, we stopped by the pool side and I took some pics of her ... this is one of the better shots ... today i specially dressed her in pink because yest some lady mistook her for a boy *gasp* ...

Does babee look nice in her teddy shirt? quite cute hor ... i've been a bad mummy, always want to wake up at least once at night to feed baby, but have been oversleeping these few nights, the next time i look at the clock it's 6:30am and i wake up feeling really guilty, luckily there is my maid who will dutifully wake up to bottlefeed her. recently, i bought a little 2-piece swimming costume for babee from Baby Gap, it's really cute ... would love to bring her swimming soon ... when she is about six months old.
By the way, I'm going back to work next week, really going to miss my babee nat.

just wanted to share this with everyone ... i finally managed to snap a pic of my sweetheart smiling ... not the sharpest pic ... but it'll do for now ... enjoy :)
We brought nat for her first immunisation jab yest. ... my babee has grown, she is now 4.2kg and 52 cm in length ... doc is happy with her growth ... like a typical kiasu mum, i was armed with a whole list of questions for the doc, ranging from her rashes to the colour of her poo :) doc looked at her rashes and determined that she had a mild eczema problem, gave us some cream to apply. poor nat ... hope her rashes go away soon. When doc gave her the jab, nat cried so loudly ... even gary was freaked out ... guess it didn't help that we had not brought any milk for her as we did not expect the wait to be so long ... i had to make an escape to one of the rooms to give her a quick feed.

At the clinic, we also met one of our ex-JC classmates, with her son who is already 1 1/2 years old ... cute kid ... it's interesting to catch up with former school mates once in a while and see how people have moved on in their lives ... heehee she says nat looks like me ... i'm very pleased.

In the past before my little Nat came along, I used to tell my frens ... "no prob going for a holiday, we'll just leave the baby with grandma" but now that Nat is with us ... it's a different story. Even when I nip off for a short shopping trip, I feel guilty about leaving her at home and I do miss Nat ... can't wait till she's a little bit older and can come along for outings with us ... :)

I admit, I've been lazy, not been updating baby's blog. Some quick updates on what's been happening:

Good news ... nat's jaundice level finally went down, I'm really a lot happier, was rather worried about this.

Bad news ... my breastmilk supply seems to have gone down ... I've since been reasearching on ways to increase the level, some people say oats help so I've been trying to eat more oats ... not sure if it works though.

Today, nat is officially just slightly over a month old. The confinement lady has gone home and it's just the maid, nat and me at home. We do seem to be coping ok, although babee seems to be more demanding as she grows. She always wants to be cuddled and screams loudly when we don't get the milk to her fast enough ... I really love the time I spend with her at home.

Worries of a first time mom

We had recently switched nat to formula milk as she has breastmilk jaundice. Doc says it won't harm her but if we do want to bring down the jaundice level more speedily, may be good to introduce formula for 3-5 days. bad idea ... nat hates formula milk ... every feeding session became rather stressful as she would puke out the milk after each feeding ... it also made her cough. after 1.5 days, I gave up ... am now back to total breast milk and thankfully nat is back to being my contented little baby. only thing is, we'll have to continue monitoring her jaundice level, which will take longer to clear ... sigh
