Nat has the dreaded chicken pox, so we have all been stuck at home this week. Here's a list of how we have managed to entertain ourselves:

1. DVDs
Dora and Little Einstein are staples. I have seen some of the episodes so many times that I can even memorise what happens next. I have also picked up some Spanish, since Dora speaks a mix of Spanish and English.

2. Mandarin and English
I spent about 30 minutes each day doing Mandarin lessons with Nat. She is rather receptive, surprisingly. So far, we have covered the Mandarin strokes heng2, shu4, pie3, na4, dian3. We have also learnt da4 xi1 gua1 , da4 xiang4 and xiao3 cao3 mei2 and xiao3 lao2 shu3. We have progressed slowly but surely in our san1 zi4 jing1. Overall, it's been quite a success. For didi lucas, I have re-organised my flashcards collection and am running through the various flashcards with him on a daily basis.

3. Painting

From painting on paper, we have gone on to painting the balcony floor and even painting the leaves on my precious plants. All for the sake of exploration and creativity.

4. Reading
I have recently discovered these phonics readers from Scholastic and bought the Dora range. The stories are short, colourful and interesting. Give it a try, nat and lucas both love for me to read it to them and we can go through quite a few books at one go. Thereafter, they will take the book from me and pretend to read it on their own.

5. Treasure Hunt

On cold rainy days, when the living room is dark, nat snooped around and found 2 torchlights. My 2 babies became explorers, hunting for hidden treasure. I had a blast watching them. When I tried to switch on the light, nat firmly told me that they were on a mission, and please could I not disturb them.

My son adores his big sister. For such an active little dude, he can actually keep still and hold his big sister's hand for five whole minutes.

Yesterday, I brought didi lucas for a trial tots tennis class. Besides Julia Gabriel, which focuses more on the singing/music & movement aspect, I wanted to expose him to various sports, and help him to better focus his attention. My baby boy had a wild time. He is so different from his big sis. Once the class started, he just trooped in, cast a glance at me for reassurance and he was off to play! I could see that he enjoyed the class, running up and down, poking his nose into the tennis balls and other equipments at the side of the tennis courts, jumping around with the other tots in the class. The coach was chasing him all around the courts and rescuing him as he attempted to climb over the net. At the end of the class, the coach suggested I wait another few months, let him grow up a bit, and he would probably be able to take instructions better. Will probably sign him up for the class next term. It was no surprise, after the class, he fell asleep the minute he was buckled into his car seat.

We had a school excursion yesterday to one of the vegetable farms at Choa Chu Kang. Interesting visit, we saw some fresh and green looking vegetables and even got to bring some home. It was pretty hot though, and soon nat was grouching away, wanting to be carried. I think for her, the highlight of the day was when she got to "harvest" a radish. They actually let her pull it out from the ground. I managed to capture her doing that in full glory :) although she does look a little grumpy in the photograph.

Her other fave moment is probably having a cool crysanthemum drink at the end of the visit. I enjoyed it, got to catch up with nat's classmates parents as well as her teachers. And you know what this forgetful mum did? She promptly forgot that the next day (which is today), nat had no school as there was another excursion for kids from other sessions. We reached the school, realised that she didn't have class today and decided to spend the morning at Borders instead. She badgered me for a Dunkin Donut, Oreos flavour, which she thoroughly enjoyed, although she got her mouth all dirty.

Here's a video of didi Lucas I did not manage to upload in the Bintan entry. He is really his dad's son. Both like to lounge topless by the pool/beach, fiddling with the iPhone. Like father, like son!

We are back, from Bintan! A short trip from Fri-Sun, but rejuvenating for Gary and me and the kids enjoyed themselves.

We had wondered whether it was a good idea to bring our maid, which we did in the end, and thank goodness we did. We were able to sneak off for some couple time, lounging by the adult pool, sipping a cold drink, ah ... that's the life!

It's nice that the kids are getting to an age when they can play together, and have fun! Lucas is constantly running after his sister, poking his nose into what she is doing.

Beach holidays are great because you essentially do nothing! Start off the morning with a leisurely breakfast, then it's beach time. We strolled by the beach and made sand cakes. Interestingly, both kids are scared of the waves so they preferred to chill away from the waves. We had the opportunity to see hermit crabs during low tide ... it was fun ... nat was scared and squealed when they crawled towards her ... lucas, the fearless, tried to swallow it whole, mud and all! We even managed to see some fish in the clear blue sea water. Gary and I tried to have a stroll along the beach, but nat has this intense jealously when she sees us holding hands and she declared she was angry. Sigh ... oh well ... there goes the romantic walk by the beach.

Next stop, swimming pool. The pools at Banyan Tree are nicer for adults, but for the kids, we headed to the Angsana resort just beside it. The pool is heated and they have a kids' wading pool that is just the right height, even for Lucas. Both our water babies loved it and nat was constantly asking us to bring her to the pool.

After the swim tired them out, we whisked them back to the room for 3-hour naps :) This is when Gary and I sneak off to explore and chill. Angsana resort also has a kids' club, a playroom with toys where the kids can hang out, with free water and cookies. It's nice that nat is at an age when she is starting to socialise. She even made friends and was playing puppets with them.

Mosquitoes were a big issue, for gary that is, haha! When you are in a resort like this, mosquitoes are just part and parcel of the environment. My man was constantly catching and killing mosquitoes, despite the fact that we slept in a bed with a mosquito net. The first night, I woke up to find him "on guard", daring any mosquito to cross his path and be smashed to death. Nat became his official assistant and was constantly telling daddy where the mosquitoes were headed. Oh yes, like gary, she too is a mosquito magnet.

Food-wise, I was not too impressed. Surprisingly, the italian food was good and our brood slurped up the spaghetti with relish. From our table at the restaurant, I could see that they had specially set up table for two on the rocks for some romantic couple. I told Gary I wouldn't like to have dinner there, firstly I wouldn't be able to see the food, secondly, would be too freaked out over the swashing waves pounding on the rocks. Haha, I'm not one for romance ... of this kind.

It was a short holiday, but well worth it. Looking forward to the next one, soon?

Baby girl is really beginning to enjoy her ballet class. Sails into the classroom, waves goodbye and you can see her focusing intently on what the teacher is saying. I think ballet is quite a good sport to take up as well, notice that her posture has improved, she sits with her back straight. Enjoy the videos.

Baby boy loves swimming. We did not swim for 2 weeks as the kids were sick. Today, was our first day back at swim class and he loved it. Cool dude ... the coach calls him superman because he is always chuckling away, even when his head gets dunked underwater. That's my boy!

Monday, 19 April 2010

Kids say the darnest things. We bought nat a toy camera yesterday and she has been snapping away at everything. She requested to take a pic of my foot, which I obliged. After that, she very matter-of-factly thanked me and said "That's a good foot, mummy." Haha, I was so totally amused.

Lucas is also beginning to recognise emotions. I had been doing flashcards with him which showed all the different emotions. Today, at Julia Gabriel, they had these emotion dolls which have different expressions, like happy, sad, angry and so on. He picked up the smiley face one and said Happy then he picked up the cross looking one and said Angry, after which he promptly dropped the doll and ran off. He doesn't like angry faces :)

I have always been a little concerned over didi's legs, which seem a little bow-legged. So, yesterday, we brought him to a pediatric orthopedic to have a look. The consultation did not last long, but at least I went away feeling more reassured. Firstly, doc said this is sometimes caused by the position of the foetus in the mum's womb (oh dear, must have kept him pretty squashed in there, sorry little man). The doctor did observe slight bow leggedness when he walked, but he also mentioned that as the toddler grows, the walking would stimulate the bones to correct itself. In majority of cases, by 4-5 years old, they would be walking quite normally. I was like "uh, what about the minority"? The doctor reassured that there was still something that could still be done to correct, if necessary. Hopefully, my little man falls into the majority.

These days, the 2 babies are becoming closer and better friends. Sometimes, didi lucas will even voluntarily run up to his big sister to hold her hands, haha, although the enthusiasm doesn't last too long. As with all siblings, minor squabbles and fights do happen, but they are forgotten quickly. Both kids love sitting with me at the PC learning the alphabets, didi is still at the A, B, C stage, but nat has moved on to phonics and blending of words. She can't quite get it yet, but good work anyway, baby girl. She is now quite adept at handling the mouse. They also love the games on the iPhone, that I am half considering getting an iPad, for them to play their games (haha, maybe one day when I feel rich, which could be quite a while away).

Diego and Dora are at the top of their reading list. I found a phonics reading programme based on this series that is quite useful. They mix simple words and pictures and make for an interesting read for the kids. Little Einstein still tops the DVD cartoon charts.

Nat's fave toy is her baby Sally (sigh, despite my persuading her Leia is a much better name, she still chose the former.) Didi doesn't have a fave, but he adores his Little Einstein-themed blue bag, which he carries around all the time.

Like mummy, my little miss is prone to mood swings, this is her being all melancholic. In such cases, daddy and mummy are to go to her and do silly things to make her laugh, no choice, it's part of the package of being a parent.

Monday, 12 April 2010

I used to think my little man was the sterotypical "bo-chup" kind of guy but recently I have changed my mind. This little man has the makings of a SNAG (sensitive new age guy), so ladies beware!

During classes at Julia Gabriel, he will go a-wandering and exploring the environment. Every so often, he looks up to find out where mummy is. When he spots me, he runs towards me in a big hug and rests his head on my lap, sigh, never fails to melt my heart everytime. His kisses, although rarely given (unlike his sister) are wet, slobbery and never fail to make my day. At night, he loves to snuggle close to me and puts his face close to mine.

Yesterday, we had a meet-up with our baby friends, it's been a while, almost 4 months I think. It's always a great feeling meeting them, seeing the babies/toddlers interact and having fun. Between us, we have 8 kids and it's always a messy affair during meal times. I remember that we used to think it was chaotic enough getting to restaurant to provide 4 baby chairs when our firstborns were younger, but it's worse when you double that. Can you imagine, we have known each other for almost 3 years already? I can still recall how, in a moment of insanity (being the hermit, I am), I actually invited some "strangers" from the baby forum over to my house and what surprised me was the overwhelming response. Life is like that, you click with some instantly and there you have it, 3 years later, we are still good friends, having gone through the joys and frustrations of motherhood together.

Saturday, 10 April 2010

As you may have noticed, I have not been updating the blog because the kids were sick last week, me and gary as well. Everyone's better now, though. It's nasty when the kids are sick, hate to see them having fever and coughing away, with mucus running down the nose. Sigh ...

2 interesting things to share in today's entry. Firstly, being the kid of someone who is into tech has it's advantages, you get introduced to all kinda gadgets at a young age. Check out little mr tech having his daily iphone gameplay, he has even learn to get comfy and rest his head on a nice fluffy pillow. It's quite educational actually, keeps the kids amused and helps them learn the alphabets. Gary saw lucas playing on it today for the first time and was impressed.

Another gameplay that I recently thought of to amuse my kids, was inspired by something I saw in one of the playgyms. By sticking one of these green lego mats on the wall, the kids can mount the bricks directly on it. Endless hours of fun! Check out nat's "hippo" (didn't think it looked like one, but a mum has gotta be encouraging, right?) and didi was mighty pleased every time he successfully stuck a brick on the wall and we all applauded his wonderful effort.

Friday, 2 April 2010

I had a one-on-one time with both my kids on Thursday, first with nat, then with lucas. After school, me and nat had a date at Orchard. We roamed the bookstores and toy shops until we were both wiped out before heading home. It's rare for her to get such undivided attention these days, and she loves it. After dropping nat home, I whisked didi lucas off to the doc for his vaccination. Thereafter, we had a stroll at MacRitchie, just him and me. Had an adventure with a hoard of monkeys, who seemed rather aggressive and there was one particular one that came very near us and kind of glared at us. Luke and I looked at each other, and we made a run for it, pram and all.

This is a picture of him right after, looking kind of pissed and keeping a lookout for the monkeys. And who said real men don't carry teddies, I think he looks pretty darn cute :)
At night, gary and I went for a couple's date, with the kids safely in bed. Did not venture too far, but it is nice to have some couple time to chit chat and just relax. It is no wonder that I fell asleep the moment my head hit the pillow, I was super wiped out!

I love my kids :) tantrums and all.

Check out didi's cool red briefs, just like superman! We are starting with with some form of potty-training and introducing the concept of briefs to him, so far so good.

On a side note, starting out on a no-carbs diet for a week, sick of looking fat and not being able to lose my post pregnancy weight (it's been 1.5 years already, you know, gasp!) Wish me luck!

Baby quirks, you got to love them. Nat's quirk: She has to wear pretty dresses all the time, totally obsessive. After a bath, she will sail into the room and point to her dresses, telling me exactly which one she wants. Usually, it's the one with lots of flowers. Some days, she even refers to herself as a Princess, haha, it's so funny. Just the other day, she lay in bed and said "Princess Natalie is tired and wants to sleep."

Didi Lucas also has a quirk. He likes to be held in a certain position. When we are watching television or the computer, he likes your hand to cradle his tummy. If the hand should happen to drop onto the lap, he will gently nudge it back into position, before leaning back and sighing with content. He sure is a funny boy.

Din do much this weekend, just captured a video of nat eating bee hoon using her chopsticks for the first time and also a pic of "pretty lucas", taken by his sister. Enjoy!

Wednesday, 24 March 2010

Today is ballet day. Nat always has some seperation anxiety just before class and dropped a few tears just before class started. However, once she got into the groove, she was happy. Danced and pranced and generally focused on what the ballet teacher was saying. When she came out of class, she declared to me that she loves ballet. Meanwhile, maybe ballet is really making her more girly, she loves wearing dresses and sometimes even requests to wear her pretty dress to bed. We have a few old ones set aside, just to cater to her request.

With nat, I have been trying to get her to write the alphabets and she is picking it up quite fast. Mandarin is an area that I am still working on, been thinking what is the best way to interest her in learning. So far, playing Mandarin kids' songs on the radio seems to work and she is quite comfortable singing and listening to Mandarin. Will perserve and see what else I can find to interest her. She loves to doodle and we have notebooks and pens everywhere, just to satisfy her doodling desires. Check out her spider with two eyes and many legs. I'm glad her doodles have progressed from just scrawls to interesting pictures.

At 18 months, didi is finally speaking a lot more. He seems to pick up new words every day. I have decided to be more diligent and try to make sure I watch the alphabets in Starfall with him and flash cards every day. Some people do not believe in the merits of flash cards, but it seems to work for my kids. I don't follow the "flash cards at lightning speed" concept though, I take my time, so my kids can recognise the picture and the word that accompanies it. I'm glad that didi is picking up some words from the flash cards, like giraffe, zoo, wear, bear, bee. His favourite numbers are five, nine and ten, courtesy of Starfall.

When people say boys are more active, they are not joking. Didi lucas is like a little pocket dynamo. Every day, he climbs up and down the sofa umpteenth times, never deterred even when I drag him off and give him a stern lecture. On the bright side though, he seems to sleep better these days and that is great, as gary and I sleep better when he sleeps well. He loves swimming as much as I love buying cute swim wear for him. Check out his latest swim fashion! Cool?

Wednesday, 24 March 2010

When nat is in a good mood, she will sing me songs she learns in school. This is one of her favourite. What a treat!

Monday, 22 March 2010

Nat was asleep, didi lucas was fussing, so we took him for a late night car ride to the supermarket. He was thrilled. Explored the whole supermarket and played hide and seek along the aisles. On the way home, he saw the headlights from the surrounding cars in the side mirror and said "Car coming". A milestone for my baby boy, the first time he put 2 words together that make sense and is even in the correct tense, haha. We really don't spend one-on-one time with the little man enough. Love him more and more every day.

Today was also the little man's first lesson at the Julia Gabriel Billingual PlayClub, kind of interesting, having a mix of both English and Mandarin teachers. I have been to these lessons with both kids so many times, but I still like to watch them interact, socialise and generally have fun in the classroom environment. Didi is a bit like daddy, when he is focused on something, like during story time, he furrows his brow and stares intently, looks very fierce. I really must capture a digital pic or video of him doing that and post it on the blog.

Some of my friends enjoy a bottle of good tipple on special occasions like birthdays, and they make it even more memorable by drinking a wine made in their birthyear - a wine every bit as old as they are. I recently celebrated a mate's birthday over a 1970 Latour - stunning and aristocratic.

In similar fashion, I have put aside a number of bottles of first-class vino for the wifey and kids. 2005 was our wedding year and a magnificent vintage in France, so we have many a great Bordeaux and Burgundy for the years ahead. 2007 is Natalie's year - less successful in Burgundy but a sterling vintage for Chateauneaf-du-Pape and Sauternes - so she can look forward to some nice sweet dessert wines when she reaches the legal age for drinking. But it is Lucas who really has the stars of the collection - a fleet of the great First Growths of Bordeaux from the 2008 vintage, including Lafite, Latour and Mouton-Rothschild. I hope the boy enjoys drinking his inheritance!

I have enjoyable memories playing tennis with my mum, when she first started me on it in primary school. She used to bring me along to her tennis sessions with her friends once a week. Armed with my HEAD junior racket that I was so proud of, I would join in their game and whack a stray ball or two. It continued for years till I mastered the skill and could have proper rallies with my mum.

Doing the same with my 2 kids. Nat is thrilled to bits with her new racket, didi lucas prefers to chase after the bright yellow balls instead. I am quite impressed though, nat can actually hit a few balls that I feed to her. I did some reading about starting toddlers on tennis, the bottomline is just let them have fun, good strokes can come later, and fun is what we had this evening. Just in case anyone is interested, the colourful balls are very light, meant specially for kids.

It helps that the tennis courts are just a minute's walk from our house. I hope my kids will grow to like the game, just like me.

Sunday, 14 March 2010

When I first saw this product, a pair of chopsticks, meant to train young kids to hold the chopsticks correctly, I scoffed. But I bought one for nat anyway, quite a while ago, and it was quietly shoved into the cupboard, till little miss uncovered it today. She ran up to me and asked if she could open it. Why not? A few minutes later, she was picking up things, using the chopsticks, just like a pro. Paper, toys, anything she could get her hands on. I put my foot down when she headed towards her shoes, armed with her trusty o'le chopsticks and explained to her that chopsticks were meant for food. She was quite happy when I took out some grapes for her to pick up, using her chopsticks. I'm quite impressed by this product though, never thought that nat would pick up the skills of using a chopstick at the age of 3.

She is not quite the graceful ballerina yet, but she sure is trying. Tutu skirt, courtesy of a mummy friend, hairband - adapted from part of the skirt. Let's try posting this again, half a year down the road, who knows, she may be more graceful by then.

Saturday, 13 March 2010

The thing I like about nat's school is that they make an effort to introduce different activities for the kids, so that school life is not boring. On Friday, they had "Dress in Your Favourite Clothes" day. If my little miss had her way, she would have gone to school in her ballet leotards, tutu and all. However, we just settled for a nice dress instead. Sob, sob, look at her, all grown up with her backpack and all.

Today, the school had a carnival. The weather was great and the kids had fun playing little mini-games and doing craft work. We just discovered that didi Lucas may actually be left-handed, like daddy. He was attempting to draw something with a marker but whenever we placed the marker on his right hand, he switched it to the left.

Everyday, Lucas surprises us with new words that he verbalises. I brought him for our weekly walk in the park on Friday. We found a new play area, with wood chips scattered around. As he tromped on the wood chips, some chips got into his shoe. He promptly said "Ouch" and sat down on me, indicating for me to take out the chips in his shoes. I was greatly amused. Then, this morning, when he woke up, he pointed outside and said "Go out". I am sure that before long, my little man will be chattering incessantly, just like his sister.

Thursday, 11 March 2010

Nat had her first official ballet class yesterday, she was a bit apprehensive initially, but once I convinced her that she was going to have fun, she adapted really quickly. I enjoy watching her from the little window, just outside the classroom. From time to time, she will look up and wave to me. They did a new ballet move, fluttering around the class like little butterflies, quite sweet to see nat looking so serious and focused as she tried to copy the teacher. Haha, this mean mummy thought she looked more like a housefly, though, with her "wings" fluttering so fast, uh dear, it's meant to be graceful, the butterfly ain't in a hurry.

Today, we also went to see the play, Give a Mouse a Cookie, adapted from her favourite book. Again, she was apprehensive at first, but unlike a year ago, she didn't cry. Instead, she held on tightly to me and focused on the play. After a while, she settled down and even giggled over some funny moments. I think her favourite part of the day was after the play, when I bought her a pack of chocolate chip cookies, outside the theatre to celebrate her "bravery". She munched on one big cookie and promptly fell asleep.

Didi Lucas is still a bit young to appreciate plays and stuff, so I didn't bring him along. He preferred to stay at popo's house, riding nat's yellow trike. I am quite impressed, nat didn't start riding the trike till about 2.5 years, but at the tender age of 1.5 years, didi lucas is raring to go. He can't quite pedal yet, but like Flinstone, he sure can use his legs to move the trike. Yabadabadoo!

My little ballerina, tonight we tried on her ballet dress for size, just in case any alterations were needed. She wanted to sleep in it, fought tooth and nail to prevent us from undressing her to wear her pyjamas. She eventually compromised, by grudgingly wearing her ballet shoes to bed. Sigh ... my little girl.

Thursday, 4 March 2010

Hort Park with the kids in the evening, best time to go is after 6pm when the sun is setting and it's not hot. The only drawback, darkness falls pretty fast, thereafter. Such a joy, sitting on the grass and watching them run around in circles. Nat picked up another pet rock, didi Lucas spied a yellow chameleon, it's nice to be out, having some fresh air.

Thursday, 4 March 2010

Nat had her first trial baby ballet class yesterday, and she loved it. I think it's every little girl's dream to wear a pretty ballet tutu and dance, yup, even me who was a tomboy! I did ballet for a few months in primary school and kind of enjoyed the whole experience, especially the dressing-up and the tippy toe ballet shoes and stretchy leotards. Then, as I got tubbier, I decided I didn't look good in the leotards and gave up! Anyway, back to nat, she enjoyed herself in class. I was observing her and she seemed very focused on what the teacher was saying. What I liked about the class was that it did not seem to be a "run around and have free play" kind of class. The teacher was actually teaching them some basic ballet exercises, in a fun manner, with nice music accompaniment. Nat was thrilled with the tutu skirt the little girls in her class were wearing and kept trying to tug at their skirts, haha, causing some irritation. I surely ain't grooming my baby girl to dance a Swan Lake recital, but I do hope that the ballet classes will help instil some grace and grooming in her. Stay tuned next week, when she attends the lesson proper, with her leotard and tutu skirt. She can't wait, and neither can I.

One of my greatest joy these days, is watching nat at the playground with her friends from pre-school. She is quite comfortable with school these days, and does not make a fuss even if she knows I am there. During didi's swim class, we no longer have to hide from her, which we used to, when she first started school. If she happens to catch my eye, she will even wave to me. Sometimes I see her climbing up the slide/ playground structure and I am so tempted to yell for her to come down. I always manage to stop myself, after all, I can't be there to watch out for her all the time, and I am sure the teachers will help keep an eye on her.

As for didi Lucas, he is fast reaching 18 months, and starting to speak more coherently. He has even picked up some chinese words, after listening to me teach nat. He is better able to express himself and is such a joy to be with (when he is not throwing a tantrum). At night, after his midnight feed, he loves to nuzzle close to mummy and fall asleep. I was just telling gary, this stage passes, oh so fast, so one should really treasure it.

Tuesday, 2 March 2010

Today, I was listening to some old songs like this , this and this from long long ago and feeling kind of nostalgic. It seems so many light years ago, and yet, I can remember some memories from childhood so well, just like it was yesterday.

Weekend outings with my mummy when we tasted almost every buffet in town (also the time when i got really fat), playing Nintendo with my cousin, chit chatting with my sister when we slept together at night, watching SBC Chinese serials re-runs at 3pm on weekdays (the weirdest things i have stored away in my brain), hiding a story book behind my assessment book and pretending I was studying, it's quite nice to reminisce sometimes.

Then there are some songs so closely-knitted to my Hwa Chong days, such as this , this and who can forget gary's fave song - this that he sang for the Talentime (which he actually missed the Finals, just to hang out with me, so honoured!) Sometimes, as you grow up, you forget the kind of happiness/emotions/ from your childhood, days without any responsibilities or too many worries.

Looking at my baby pics, I do see some aspect of myself in both my kids, hmm, is it the grouchy lips?

I wonder what nat and lucas will remember from their childhood. Hopefully, this blog is still around, and they will enjoy reading it.

On days when there are no tantrums, it is pure bliss spending time with the kids :) But I guess, how can one appreciate the good, if one does not first experience the reverse?

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Thursday, 25 February 2010

These days, I deal with tantrums on a daily basis. I feel as if the Sydney trip kind of triggered the emotions in my 2 babies. Lucas has realised that screaming gets him the attention he desires. This boy has really good stamina, just today, he tried to take a swipe at me, I glared and him and told him sternly no. Oh ... the floodgates opened ... he cried and screamed and kicked. I quickly placed him in the playpen, where he couldn't hurt himself, and ignored his crying. It is very interesting, just hide and observe him, you will find that he looks around in the midst of crying to see if anyone is looking (and to take a breather). If he spies you looking at him, off he goes again, if not, the crying reduces to a whimper. When he finally calmed down, after about half an hour, I sat down and read a book with him and he was totally fine, oblivious to his terrible crying tantrum that had just passed.

As for nat, these days, it is just a contest of wills. She wants something, I tell her no, she gets angry, becomes rude, gets scolded ... blah blah blah ... the cycle goes on. I am trying out the naughty chair method, works sometimes, but not all the time.

I know this is just a phase, but sometimes, it gets really frustrating. But I always think to myself, better to go through this now, then to have 2 rude and bratty kids/tweens on hand later. So wish me good luck and grant me patience, please.
